The TAG Awards The TAG Awards is one of the most anticipated events of the theatre season. Modeled after the Tony awards, the process begins in June with nominations submitted by our membership under a wide variety of categories ranging from acting to directing to sound design to outstanding musical production. Nominations ballots are weighted based on the number of theatre venues the voting member has attended during the course of the season. The top five in each category are considered the nominees for the final ballot. These nominees are announced at our annual Nominations Night in July – an exciting evening filled with humor, celebration, and camaraderie. Within days following the Nominations event, each member receives their final awards ballot. Ballots are weighted based on the number of productions represented in each category that the voting member has attended The season culminates with the Annual Awards Gala held in August. It’s an evening of glitz and glamour, with a program complete with an Emcee, volunteer recognition, performances by the casts of nominated musical productions and undergraduate scholarship winners, as well as the announcement of the award recipients in each category. With over 35 theatre companies and 250 productions mounted each season, the TAG Awards recognizes the best of the best. Whether an awards recipient or a nominee, recognition by fellow artists is a treasured honor. James Tobey, presenting the 2006 Best Featured Actress in a Musical Category from Los Angeles!
